Who We Are
BXL-Irish Unity is a non-partisan civic group of Irish diaspora based in Brussels. We are a collective of professionals from diverse backgrounds working in the EU institutions and wider afield. We represent a spectrum of people on the topic of Irish unity - meaning some of our members are supporters of Irish unity while others are unity-curious.
Mission Statement
By facilitating civic debate and policy dialogue, BXL-Irish Unity raises awareness of the need to plan for Irish unity within the Irish government and the EU. Our activities also extend to promoting diaspora voices as central to the debate on Irish unity as well as advocating to extend the franchise to Irish citizens abroad in the event of a referendum. We also work with political parties to help address the democratic deficit of Brexit by increasing Northern Ireland’s representation within the EU institutions.
Values
BXL-Irish Unity operates as a rights-based platform, meaning that intersectionality and feminist values are at the core of our work. We believe in fostering solidarity with other communities and peoples to affirm the importance of self-determination and decolonization through peaceful and democratic means.
Get Involved
BXL-Irish Unity is not exclusively just for Irish people. We welcome all those who are interested in the topic of Irish unity and want to engage with it. We operate on a volunteer basis and are regularly looking for people to help build the debate on Irish unity in the EU. Get in touch by email to join us: bxlirishunity@gmail.com.
